Elect Frank Garnish for
Director of Area A
|
Community Schools
The formation of the Cedar Family of
Community Schools resulted from the
energetic leadership of Shelagh Gourlay and
political support of RDN Director Frank
Garnish.
Shelagh envisioned a society formed to
provide needed community services and
activities for all ages in cooperation with
local associations and the Nanaimo and
District School Board. Her efforts
culminated in the creation of the Cedar
School and Community Enhancement Society (CSCES) |

A shining example of CSCES’s success is the
preservation and restoration of the Cedar Heritage
Centre. Shelagh and others rallied Community support
for the project. Regional Director Frank Garnish
spent 1500 hours lobbying both School Trustees and
RDN Board Members and staff convincing them to give
the Heritage Centre a chance. Without the work and
dedication of an army of volunteers, the Heritage
Centre would have been razed to create a parking
lot.
CSCES meets bi-monthly on the second Tuesday.
President Frank Garnish leads committed CSCES Board
Members and staff toward their objectives of an
interactive and cooperative Community providing a
place for everyone. |
